Join us for an engaging presentation with a University of Northern Iowa professor, Melida Heinz, who is leading Iowa’s first Men’s Shed initiative—an innovative, community-based model designed to support men in retirement as they navigate new rhythms, roles, and identities. Men’s Sheds, a global movement, offer welcoming spaces where men can work side-by-side on projects, share skills, build friendships, and strengthen their well-being through meaningful connection.

During this session, the professor will introduce the Men’s Shed concept, highlight the success of the Cedar Valley Men’s Shed, and share insights from his work helping older men cultivate purpose and belonging. Attendees will also explore the possibility of launching a Men’s Shed here in Ames—imagining what it could look like, who it could serve, and how it could enrich our community’s network of healthy aging supports.
